I particularly like the reference to the Angolan army special

Sounds bloody cool!
Just be aware it is essentially a tractor. It'll be tough as boots but that's not to say things won't break or wear out, and repairs or replacements will be quite hard to find and probably expensive.
It'll use lots of diesel, and unless you are a farmer using it for farming or a forrester using in for forresting (sic) then you will have to use white diesel, with no trace of red diesel allowed in the system. (e.g. drain and rinse the tank and replace the filters).
If you are servicing it yourself, you will need a whole new selection of tools. (3/4 drive socket set + scaffolding pole to undo the wheel nuts, 6ton+ trolley jack, big compressor and impact wrench etc.)
It'll be a proper handful to drive on the road if you're used to driving cars, but then that can also mean it's very rewarding to drive as you have to concentrate and think a long way ahead.

Isn't a 404 most likely to be a 2.8l petrol? Whatever it drinks, it will be a lot but I don't suppose you are considering it for bashing out motorway miles!
I might take it to work once or twice a year.No idea if it is even road legal yet
According to rough calculation £18 to get to work and back
