There is a huge, probably inexhaustible list of motoring enthusiasm sadness. Outsiders might look at the Bad Parking thread or the Misbadged Cars thread and think we're a right bunch of dullards. Well, fk the outsiders. From the point of view of an enthusiast, a Pistonhead, you, what is the saddest piece of motoring "enthusiasm" you have seen?

Well, for me, there are a few things that come to mind. His and hers cars... not the worst thing in the world, Chris Evans did buy his ex missus, the fantastic Billie Piper a Ferrari 550 when wooing her. I'll forgive this, it was a Ferrari and he did nail a girl way too hot for him.

What about if all your cars are the same colour? Well, let's go back to Chris Evans. A true enthusiast, of that there is no doubt. He does have a thing for painting his Ferraris white though... I can forgive this too, his automotive taste is second to none.

Finally, I would nominate consecutive numberplates. The problem is Pistonheads member xPOW whose collection is great and the plates only seem to make it cooler. xPOW - definitely forgiven.

What then, if someone had his and hers cars, the same make and model, in the same colour and with consecutive numberplates? Well, probably ok if the machinery is something exotic... Not so much if they are crappy Toyota Rav4s.

Hmm...

Wow, saddest piece of motoring enthusiasm is you taking the time to post this thread. Second saddest is I'm bored enough to post in your pointless thread.

It took a few minutes, not really a lot of time out of my busy Sunday afternoon. You forgot to post a "cool story bro" pic, they're very much in fashion now I hear.

Well, entire concept of people parking at car shows, then getting a jack out to lift all the wheels off the ground, one by one, to ensure the badge in the centre is upright, demonstrating an extremely sad case of top rate stupidity.

Not sure what's shocking, the fact that the very head-shaking concept exists, or the fact it's quite popular.

Personally, I'd take the centre cap off and put it back in the right way up hehe

when having a new set of boots on the GTA I made sure they fitted them all in precisely the same position.

Valve at 6 o'clock centre of Pirelli P Zero at exactly 12 o clock. (Centre caps can, as posted above, be taken off and re-placed accordingly)

Fortunately the chap doing it is a mate and understands how particular I can be. biggrin

People who wear motorsport branded clothing, when not at an event or part of the team. Also known as bobble hatters.

As it makes me look less special in mine.

I once went to a MGOC meeting near Ripon. One chap pulled up with a Midget on a trailer. He decanted it from said trailer, pushed it into place, jacked it up and put it on axle stands, placed a mirror underneath the engine and then spent ten minutes picking the blades of grass that it had accumulated on its journey from the trailer out of the tyres with a pair of tweezers.

I mean, there's Concours d'Elegance and there's Concours d'WTF?

Going to classic car shows and seeing sad arses with some old lashed up 80`s 90`s st box,but because it was the special edition they think its a classic.
It will be parked up next to e-types,austin sevens and ford zodiacs etc.its not a classic its an old car thats about as exciting as the sign pointing the way to the toilet.
Next time leave it in the car park,if I want to look at cars like that I`d take a trip to my local breakers thanks.

Anybody who cleans their car rather than drives it.....

Especially those weird people who are seemingly proud of the fact their car is a "garage queen"

Mmm slightly disagree, you say 80's stbox, I would regard a Sierra/Granada as a classic.

I think any kind of blind affiliation to a particular brand is pretty sad. Be it owning ten cars in a row made by the same manufacturer, branded clothing, etc.

There are too many good cars out there made by too many different manufacturers, to spend our whole life blindly chasing a badge.
