Can you tax a car without the tax slip thingy?

If i want to tax it at a post office, what do i take? V5, insurance and MOT? or do they need the slip from the DVLA where you tick the box for either 6 or 12 months? I dont have this because the vehicle is on a SORN.

The only DVLA paperwork i have is a letter confirming the date of sorn expiry.

I have done it with the just the three documents you mentioned.

They did ask about the reminder - told them I didn't receive it.

if it's sorn and you want to do it at the PO yes, you'll need the V5

Or alternately do it online? The SORN letter will have the same 'reference' number so should be straightforward.

Was going to do it online, but i'll be taxing it as soon as i insure it, and get the policy emailed to me.

I doubt the dvla databse will update and still show the car as listed without insurance for a few days so wont let me do it.
