Builder messed up my car !

Hi All,
My neighbour is having an extention and some work inside their house.
My pride and joy was parked in the garage and the builder had been drilling, into the wall on the other side of my garage. BUT, has drilled holes all the way through into my garage!
This could have been really bad but what has happened is that 15-20 of the bricks inside of my garage have "blown off" (fragments of bricks).
This has showered my car in brick chippings (the biggest fragment being the size of a lighter), dust everywhere and my mk2 GTI 8v (which is mint) has got S**t all over it.
I get on very well with my neighbour and the builder seems to be a sound bloke.
When I discovered this, this morning, I went round and the guy came over to asses the damage.
The car is so covered in dust, that it is hard to tell if any scratches or tiny dents have been left.
The builder is willing to co-operate 100% and has asked me to get a full valet inside and out as the windows was a tiny bit open. As well as fixing the holes in my wall.
The thing is I want to valet the car myself and the builder has asked me how much a valet would cost?????
I think it would take me about 3-4 hours to get the car looking like new again an dI have all the lotions and potions!!
So what do I charge the builder? I'm not a scammer, so just want to charge the builder what a valetter would charge is they came to my house.
Fingers crossed there is no body damage!!!!!

Also why the hell is he drilling holes thru your garage wall? Is it a shared wall, can it hold whatever extension he is building or what?
I would be worried about that more.

I would be worried about that more.
With regards the car, give it a wash to your usual standards and if it's not scratched or damaged just put it down as one of those things, your neighbour and the builder will no doubt be grateful. Then you've got something saved in the 'goodwill bank' that you might need to call on if you piss your neighbour off in the future or you need a big favour from them!

Thank god someone said it. Its a mistake - give the bloke a break. Nothing a bucket of water and quick vac wont fix.What is it with this country where people are after money all the time?

I'm sure you'll make a mistake sooner or later and I hope someone holds you to ransom for it.
I have told the builder that I will wash the car but he is insiting to pay for a valetter. So the builder has agreed to pay for getting the car to the original condition and has said he would still pay if I clean it.
As I said in the OP, I don't want to scam anyone, if I get someone to do the work it will cost, if I do it (which I prefer) it will cost me 3-4 hours work.
I might just ask for a bottle of something nice.

If you're decent with the guy and you need a builder in the future he might just remember your good will.....
Just pulled the car out of the garage and the builder came over (he is a a bit of a petrol-head, and knew what the car was!!)
The car is under a really thick covering of dust, I mean like it has been sat in an under ground car park for 10 years!! Maybe worse.
The inside of the car is going to take a bit of time to clean up. The dust is everywhere.
The builder has said again, "how much to make it look all shiny again", and I have just agreed that he could buy me a beer sometime and that we would look at the car next week when all clean, to assess the damage, if any.
I think this is the right thing to do and my neighbour who was present, looked pretty chuffed as I do I!!
Nothing that can't be fixed on a Sunday morning, with a little elbow grease!!

sounds like the best outcome to me,
I would get an external company in to to this valeting, just the once. The reason being that they are independant.
Plus if the valeter does even more damage (accidentally or cack handedly) THEY will have their own insurance.
- If* there are loads of chips in the paint (which is likely, considering what's been dropped in it), after all you have said the builder is going to immediately think you are trying to pull a fast one.

If you're getting a valeter/detailer in to do the work then get the builder to pay for that.
If you're going to do it yourself with your own potions, then get the builder to pay for the potions.
Asking the builder to pay for a pro and then doing it yourself while pocketing the cash isn't right IMO.
