Video: Aston Martin Virage

Aston's latest V12 coupe on the move in promo video

Aston Martin has released this promo video of its new DB9 - sorry - Virage convertible doing its thing on some mountain roads.

Which is all very nice - it's always good to see a nice video of a good car bowling along (and Sutcliffe reckons the Aston Martin Virage is a very good car indeed), but why do Aston's video people insist on slathering their promotional videos with heaps of muzak. That V12 is more than good enough.

Mind you, at least the dramatic strings are better than the vaguely drum and bass loop on that V8 Vantage S video we showed you a little while back.

Even so, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies would still be unimpressed...

I've never really been a fan of Aston Martin, right now Jaguar are making far better looking cars that are better value for money in my opinion.

Turn off the tunes, there was more than enough soundtrack already on that clip!

I don't think it's a girl thing! I thought it was great but then I've always thought the overall package is much better than any Jag offering.

I thought before I played the video: "I bet they play some loud stty music and don't even let the car sell itself" needless to say when I clicked it I wasn't surprised they'd done exactly that. "Epic fail" as the kids on the net say.

It's all in the looks, the lights in particular - the Jaguar looks good from the side (other than the vertical strake), but the lights, front and rear are awful. The front ones are just the wrong shape, unlike the Aston's which are perfect. The front grille is OK, but I prefer the Aston one that takes up more of the front. The worst aspect of the Jag though, is the rear, where the lights are a dog's breakfast of shapes and chrome, unlike the simple elegant arcs of the Aston lights (which are of course echoed in the very nice rear lights of the Jag XF).

We'll have to agree to diagree there. I don't think either could ever be called ugly. I think calling some of the Jag styling aspects a dogs dinner is a little harsh. Personally i think the Aston's styling has now been face lifted too far. But, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.

Edit: Just clicked on your profile & seen your DB9. Now that is/was the peak for Aston Martin in my opinion. This new Virage isn't as stunning.

The Jag is not an ugly car. It's an attractive one, but the lights ruin it for me.

I agree of course that the DB9 is the apogee of the current range in beauty terms, but it doesn't stop me thinking about V12Vs.

So it's essentially a wide bodied DB9 with a V12? I was hoping for something interesting looking as opposed to something that looks pretty much like everything else in their line up, getting as bad as Porsche now.

I agree that Zod's DB9 was the last of the good Astons, all the models now look dated and not refreshed like the Jags, especially the GTR and GTR-S with its aggressive styling! I am mid twenty's so is it an age thing? Perhaps I'll prefer a more subtle car when I'm an old duffer smile haha
