What are Fiat 500s like to drive?

Renting a villa in Italy with my missus and have booked a Fiat 500 with Sixt to go the 40km or so from Rome airport to the villa, and for whizzing about countryside for the week.
Seemed a good idea, as when in Rome and all that...
I'd expect them to be quite fun to drive, so what are they like?

I've had one as a curtosy car a few times, they are quite good fun to drive. Like a previous poster said you do have to rev them. The steering is a little light for my tastes but you soon get used to it. It feels like a much bigger car than it is when you are in it as the driving position is so high as well.
They can be quite good fun on the twisties, but dont expect sports car handling, infact my KA probably handles better.

Fun but not particularly civilised. And depending on your ergonomics, you might get bored of your knee banging against the central interior trim. And not a huge amount of luggage space (even with the seats down), but fine if there's just two of you.
I bought one. Enjoyed it for a couple of months and then the novelty wore off.
But I'd definitely pick one to zip around Italy for a week or two. The road surfaces are largely awful and local drivers are largely nutters. Drive it hard, enjoy it and then give it back. Perfect!

As Motorrad said, like a Panda. As yours will be a well used hire car, expect it to rattle a lot. My mate's 500 does and he has only had it for a year. There are a number of different rattles coming from around the car, however that doesn't put him off the ownership experience as he still loves it.
Aren't these the same as a Ford KA? I've driven a KA and it was quite fun. The one I drove was a hire car so I tested it to the max lol was a good laugh, light but didn't have much power, really struggled up hills, but once up to speed it was ok. Handling and steering was good for that type of car.
At the end of the day it's a small front wheel drive hatchback designed for popping to tesco's, it's good for what it is, I certainly wouldn't buy one, but for ragging around for a couple of days it's not bad at all.
