I'll be brief - but thanks for looking.

Until recently had a Saab 9-5 which I swapped in for a Volvo S60 T5. The Volvo has gearbox problems, other problems and today I discovered that some Coolant has vanished. I've had enough - it looks like this one might be a money pit.
Dealer has agreed to take it back, but can't return the Saab as he sold it yesterday. So car hunting.
While I like dynamic handling cars, I drive about 30k a year in this, my work car, mostly on motorways and consequently comfort and noise are more important to me than going around the corner on rails.
The car need not be diesel, but I do not want to get worse than T5 economy. That was between 30 and 35 on the motorway. Town driving is limited so not as much as an issue. I don't hate diesel, but in this price range most have been to the moon.
The car needs to look presentable to clients, and if it's something that I can stick a plate on it and not have them know it's age I'm perfectly happy.
I very much liked the S60, but am now aware that Auto boxes and Volvo can be a bad combination at 100k. Disappointing really. Our family car is a Merc C320 which does occasionally struggle for space.
My shortlist appears to be whittled down to a manual S80 - probably a 2.4. High miles don't frighten me, but I would not want to by any mega high miler to begin with.
But before I commit are there any other options that I should have though of? The floor is open - and the budget is £2k!
