What are you going to do, sell your car because you have to pay another £15 for your permit. No. But they will rake in millions.

I think the point is that if you live in a city and need a parking permit there is a reasonable chance you might use the car you park there.

I agree.

Though they might find that petrols have carcinogens added to them that diesels don't. And that petrol particulates are finer, remain airborne longer and penetrate the lungs more deeply.

Back in the 1980's HM Gov produced a report on petrol v derv (Quarg?) that completely ignored the issue of Benzene in petrol in the report's summary. I wonder if the latest report does too?

If the London boroughs want to improve air quality vis a vis diesels, all they need to do is ban the black cabs from the roads - these chuck out clouds of fumes 24 hours a day. Can't see that happening though.

Are councils not starting to cash in because diesels are more common now. More people have started buying/owning diesels...
