Audi Readies RS6 For 2012
Ingolstadt pushes hot A6 to market next year to combat all-new BMW M5
Audi could reveal its new RS6 as soon as the 2012 Geneva motor, according to reports in the Dutch press.
Traditionally, RS-model Audis have only rolled into dealers later on in a model's lifecycle, but Ingolstadt is pushing its new RS6 to market barely a year after the all-new 'cooking' A6, which hits dealers this spring.
This is presumably to steal the M5's thunder, as the twin-turbo V8 BMW is due to make its motor show debut in Shanghai this April before going on sale in September.
Powering the new RS6 will most likely be a twin-turbo V8 with anything between 550hp and 600hp (although some reports suggest that a naturally aspirated V10 could find its way under the bonnet), while a slightly less spicy S6 (expected to hit the streets just before the RS6's unveiling next March) will get a 430hp naturally aspirated V8
the RS5 and RS3 just aren't the same..... and the RS6 is too heavy - why does it seem Audi are intent on missing all the best opportunities these days.
From just about every review i've ever read/watched no RS6 has ever been the better drive over the M5, sure, it may be faster....but not as thrilling.
BMW know how to make fast saloon cars, and they do it pretty well. Audi are good too, but not quite up there yet IMO.

Sometimes you just want to get there in comfort, quickly, with all your luggage, so you don't actually want that driver's edge. In fact that could get annoying. Having a second car tucked away in the garage for the proper driving is often a better option (assuming space and budget allow). Everyone has different needs and preferences, but mine fitted well with the RS6.
Magazine articles often miss the point of some cars they review. I remember one saying the integrale was pointless because it was LHD only.
That said, I can't see me wanting the new RS6, as the current one does everything much better than I was expecting it to. And it has a V10.

Chris harris (i think) seemed to think the new M5 is more comfy than the outgoing model. He said "something is going to have to go very, very wrong between now and release for it not to be anything but a triumph"
