ASR light = MOT fail

Hi I have agreed to buy a Volvo S80 via a popular online auction site.....

One problem it does have is the ASR light is on. The seller has been advised that the light is due to a faulty or loose seat sensor. I'm taking a view, and given the cost am not too upset either way.

He is having the car MOT'd today. What's the likelihood of it making it through with a Pass and this light?

'has got anti skid warning light on have taken it to volvo garage (m w king) they said nothing wrong with the anti skid the light is on probably because of the switch under the seat '

Is it any good by the way? - this is a 2002 also - 2.3 140hp, 87k miles.

Anti skid will be nothing to do with bits under the seats, they are SRS sensors (airbags)

ASR is stability/traction control to stop you spinning the wheels/car

It will pass an MOT at the moment but IIRC it wont pass next year as the lights are becoming part of the test!!!

£60 for diagnosis at Volvo Stealer, might just be one duff sensor, got to be worth it, certainly comes in handy in an emergency!

Mine is the S80 T SE Auto, 2435 cc, not sure about the h.p., doesn't say in my paperwork. Had it 7 years this year, ex demo, got it with 8000 on the clock, just passed 65k now. I have the auto, with cruise control, and very pleased with it all round. I travel Aberdeen to London once a year, and its so comfortable. In town I get around 21 mpg, on a long run 28-30mpg.

Both headlight wiper motors are shot, local dealer wanted 600 notes to replace them, so that won't happen. Hope you will be as happy with yours as I am with mine.

If it is saying "ABS/brake service required" it will either be a sensor (£70 to £90 for pattern parts) as already
suggested or the reluctor ring on a cv joint. You can buy the rings for about £15 from the bay or get a new
joint. I had this message and ended up getting a front joint to clear the problem. Very easy to change.
It will pass the test as ABS operation is not tested yet.
