Just got an online quote via confused.com to compare against my renewal quote from Admiral.

£130 cheaper (23%) per year isn't to be sniffed at.

Is the online only insurer the way to go or have people experienced problems with them?

Appolgies to Mods if posted in the wrong forum.

Just ring Admiral and they'll match the elephant quote, Admiral own elephant.

Along with Diamond.

I have had claims with Diamond and Elephant and both were relatively pain-free. I would suggest adding the courtesy car/loan car option (as they messed us around a little on that) but other than that they are good!

I would also strongly suggest at least getting a quote for Multi-Car if you have another car. It save me a huge chunk this year (on a quote that was already loads less than the next nearest).

highly recommend Elephant. Their call centre staff are top, and they are pretty efficient. I had to claim a couple of years back, and again it was all handled professionally and quickly.

It is always worth giving them a call to run through the questions to see if there is a discount to be had- managed to save ~£50 at my last renewal!

Phoned Admiral and they matched the Elephant quote.

After adding on guaranteed PNC instead of just protected, hire car and personal injury cover (all options I currently had but things the online quote didn't cater for) the final quote worked out £66 cheaper, at £517.

So, well worth the effort beer

No issues with elephant, been with them for a few years now, their call centre staff are top-notch (as long as you get Wales, not India) and there are no stupid charges for changing little details.

I've been with Elephant for 2 years and not had any issues at all, moving my insurance from my old Corsa to my new 250Cup was completely painless as well. As others have said, Admiral and Elephant are the same. When you did a quote with Elephant, you should have got a quote number, when you ask Admiral to see if they can price match, they'll ask for the quote number and then say yes.

Also with elephant, have been good, BUT the moment they move their call centre to India I'm taking my business elsewhere.
That'd be the weekends then. Monday to Friday, it seems to be UK employee's, Weekends seems to be foreign labour.

Apart from renewals, we're south wales and canada.
Also if the lines are busy and it isn't urgent or just want a quote email the company and there is a turn around period of approx 24 hours.

I knew you were South Wales, wasn't aware of Canada. I've had no issues with Elephant, but i've just noticed that whenever i call at the weekend, i get through to someone foreign, but any other time it's someone British.

As i say, not a complaint, merely an observation.

Its ok your spot on, as staff in wales usually work till late week days (8 p.m. IIRC) they have abroad cover weekends so that week staff can have their alloted weekends.

i have been with elephant for about 9 years and 3 of those years i have had 2 policies running at once.

I've had no issues and found them to match others quotes if someone manages to (rarely) beat their quote.

They have pretty long opening hours and their website is good for those day to day day dream quotes "i wonder what it would cost to insure a 355 if i kept the milage low" ... type thing

They answer the phone in decent time, they haven't once cocked up a payment which is brilliant.

They have been decent with me. I've had them give me temp cover when they are not supposed to "because its christmas time" (it was at the time)

I've only claimed once which was for a windscreen, again no issues at all

Also had them cancel an admin charge for changing something on my policy (but only after i told the fellow i would pay it but wasn't happy)

It is totally hit of miss who will answer the phone and in what part of the world they are in but everyone seems to have no issues accessing my details so i don't care.

Only thing thats happened (not a complaint more of a confusing situation) - i changed car mid policy from a GT4 WRC to a Citroen C5 HDi 110 (needed it for milage purposes) and was informed i would need to pay the difference as the C5 was a higher insurance group?! ... i asked them to double check and they came back confirming it was a higher group, still cheap enough to insure so i don't mind, odd though.

All in all i cant fault them, renewed my insurance for another year few weeks back, pay upfront and forget about it for another 12 months, job done.

When I spoke to Admiral I assume I got through to a Welsh call centre (the accent hinted at it) so perhaps they're all in the same building with the Elephant crowd.

Thanks for all your comments, good to know for future reference.

I've just switched away from elephant as we got a 2nd car and their multiple car policies were coming in at a lot more than any other companies. It's a shame because up till now they have always been the best value but when they are £200+ more expensive than the competition it's time to move on. I switched to Adrian Flux (withe the added PH discount) as they were very competitive and offered a good policy.

I've been with Elephant for 5/6 years now. Before that I was with Admiral. Only ever one problem. Their Canadian staff were poor at solving/explaining but 2 mins on the phone to someone in Wales and a the issue was resolved.

They have always managed to match any competitor prices in the time I have been with them.

Never accept your renewal quote from them - a fresh quote online via comparison sites always seems to turn out cheaper....
