Avoiding having to do such arduous tasks as loft insulation this morning, I found myself avoiding that and exploring the many groups on Flickr, when I came across this:

Now I've always likes the 9-3 but never the SportCombi, until now.

After a little more research I then discovered this video of the car in action;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDrqSeWTR-o

For those of you with half decent hearing, yes that is a 5-pot, a T5 unit from a V70 with a Garrett GT37, mated to a BMW gearbox and the rear axle from a 9-3 Turbo X, I've spent a while trying to translate various swedish websites, with not an awful amount of luck. But from what I've found it appears to have around 430bhp.

Oh and the blokes name is Johan Lundgren.

Is that not one the of the coolest more unconventional drift cars you've seen?

Were it not for the video I would have dismissed this as a hoax when I saw that it said TROLLSPEED on the front!

Is this the same car?

Not heard of Trollspeed before? I assume it's just a variation on the town name Trollhättan where Saab are based. They're a motorsport and tuning company. Yes that is the same car in the video you posted.

Yes.
Trollspeed built the engines for the Per Eklund Pike Peak challenge 9-3 awd and his rallycross engines, among many other high end projects.
Probably one of the most respected of the Swedish tuners/engine builders over there, and as you say are based in Trollhattan, where the Saab factory is, because, Trollspeed was effectively born out of the demise of the 'works' Saab rally dept, when Saab quit rallying back in 1980ish.

I wonder why they didn't use a Saab engine?

Do Saab not already do a twin turbo V6 rear driver anyhow? I'm sure a chap I used to work with had one, 9-3 cabby me thinks

No Saabs have ever been RWD. They do have an AWD platform now though.

What a waste of a great car. I could think of a lot better ways to drive it than sideways. Drifting, pointless show boating.
