If you get a payout for your car, does the insurance company pay book price or decrease the value if it is a cat d etc?

Then the insurer would decrease the payout as the value is lower than that of a non write off vehicle.

Mine still paid more than I gave for the car.

In my experience (only three cars written off) they pay book price and dont bother looking up old history if the car is of a low value.
I guess the chance of them checking history prior to accident, increases with value of car.

The 944 turbo i had was a £8k payout and they didnt bother checking that it was a CAT D before my crash.

Makes sense or you could just buy a cat C car for half the price and accidently crash it.
