Unfortunately not in the fun way.

I just parked my VW Transporter outside some shops.

BMW 530 one side and 320 Coupe the other.

As I get out a woman is returning to her 320 which is on my drivers side.

"WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?"

"Sorry ?"

"WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?" (pointing at the gap)

(I know I should have shouted "Loose some weight" but I was taken by surprise)

Now I'm 13 stone and have just easily got out of my van but I'll admit as her coupe has long doors it'll be a squeeze as she's about a size 16.

I looked and I've parked approx 3" from the white line, as has she.

"I didn't make the spaces"

I looked at the other side and I'm maybe 5" from the other line but the 530 is closer to his line so the gap is the same.

"Are you going to move it"

I'm a bit amazed by this

"No"

"I see chivilry is dead...."

I've edited it down as it went on for a minute or so but is it me but I'm think WTF is she on.

She wasn't a (actually I thought she was quite attractive) and she had a 20K car.

Would anyone on here have moved their car or have asked someone else to ?

You could have just reversed out so she could get in...

If she had asked politely, possibly.

As things were, not a chance.

If she was polite, I would have reversed back to let her get in, but if the events occurred like you say in the OP, I would leave my car exactly where it was. And I would have told her that too.

Which one of you didn't reverse into the space?

If her, fk her. Not literally, not the verb "to fk".

For future reference:

"Are you going to move it"

"What's the magic word?"

"please"

"Pardon?"

"PLEASE!"

"Seeing as you ask so politely, it would be my pleasure."

If she is on your driver's side, surely her door wasn't your problem?

So you're supposed to reverse into spaces at the shops?

So, when you're reversed up against the wall/someone elses car, how do you get the shopping in the boot?
Do what I do, reverse in, when you come out with the basket/trolly, drive out, get out load boot, drive off having put the trolly back, easy.

I never ever drive into a space, with the exception of parrallel parking of course.

Maybe because people expect an aggressive response (even if that is an incorrect assumption), they start off with an aggressive approach?

It's not a very good tactic though...

Not an interesting story, but the other week I was at one of our offices and parked in an empty space. A woman (from a neighbouring office) in one of those X6s (an instant faux pas in my view!) drove into the car park and made a bit of a point of driving up and down. When she got out, she said, with a sense of indignation,
"You shouldn't park there, that's my space"
I'm not sure that it was true, but I said, with no sense of displeasure,
"Ok. I'll move it over there"
strangely, she carried on and on telling me not to park there. It was as if she'd built herself up to a(n unnecessary) state of annoyance about the parking situation.

Incidentally, my Mondeo estate fitted perfectly well into the alternative space, so I suspect that her car would have done too....

ps. Apparently it wasn't "her space" anyway!

I reversed in both the cars went in forwards.

I never reverse my van out of a space as you'd be amazed how idiots try to sneak past.

As it happens a disabled old lady got out the 530 and she was behind me in the shop and asked me to put the heavy items on the checkout (which I did)

I'm now kicking myself that I didn't say "What's the magic word" as with 2 kids under 3, I say it often enough !

Really? That's a bit of a faff. Does your car not cause an obstruction whilst you've pulled it forwards to load and return your trolley?

I'm all for the benefits of reverse parking, but in that instance I wouldn't bother.

Oh bore off. How do I do it? I lift the stuff out of the trolley and set it in the boot. Seems to work ok. Then I drive off without wondering if I'm going to reverse into a car coming down the carpark. The whole argument of trolley access is a ridiculous one, if you can't get a trolley to the rear of your car then it isn't hard to walk the length of the car with a bag in your hand, is it?

Anyway, this is going off topic and isn't a debate worth having... are you 300bhp/ton in disguise?

Leave trolley at front of car, open boot, take shopping to boot, take trolley to trolley stand, go home. Easy.

If you're not capable of reversing out a space without hitting something though, keep doing what you're doing. I tend to look, and use my mirrors. As a result, i'm yet to hit anyone in a car park. Seems to work for most people. smile
No you have just been lucky...

Someone hit my brother doing maybe 20mph whilst he was very slowly reversing out.

It was deemed his fault !

Some day you'll drive into a space, come out of the supermarket and there'll be a VW Transporter on one side and a Ford Transit on the other. You'll spend the next 5 minutes reversing out at 8 inches per minute because looking over your shoulder and looking in your mirrors will show you the sum total of st all.

And then, my argumentative little friend, then you'll wish you'd taken 4 seconds longer to reverse in.
