Parking - reverse or drive in?

Just a poll.

Yes, there are variables, things like parallel parking, supermarket spaces where you can drive straight through a space and still be facing out. You make up your own mind what parking you are most likely to indulge in and how you go about it.

I always reverse in because it is much easier to drive out, among other reasons.

BUT, why would you reverse in at the supermarket if you're putting shopping in the boot

Is it really worth struggling with all that shopping just so you can go "I'm on PH, and if I don't reverse in, some guy I've never met will call me a douche and my driving skill is inadequate."

I drive into the garage forwards because that puts the driver's door towards the centre of the garage rather than the wall. In a car park, it depends on which way around the cars next to me are parked. I try to park driver's door to driver's door, offset slightly towards the other side of the space to allow more space to open doors. In practice that means usually reverse, because most people seem to go in forwards.

Yes and no. It made me wonder what other PHers tended to do, that's all. I'm not going to get into a debate on it, doogz already handed me my ass on a plate, I don't need to be shown up like that again on this subject.

I always reverse in, which I've noticed annoys some people as they have to wait what 30 seconds longer before they can pass, I am one of the only people on my street to reverse into my drive and always get someone smart arse sat behind who once I've reversed in will give a gesture to ask "What was the point in that?" then floor it for 100 meters till they get to either their house or the junction at the end of the street. I think it's easier parking in reverse especially in a big vehicle, not to mention safer when leaving.

Drive in, because I'm lazy. I wish we had angled parking bays like they do in America, they're even lazier.

Depends on how easy it is to reverse out and whether I'm feeling lazy , usually reverse in...

Why does anyone reverse in??????

If you drive in its easy..drive straight in and upon return chuck st in boot, reverse out sloppy drive fowards you're away.

Reverse in... drive past spot, brake,reverse, slowly and precisely maneuver car into spot, try to chuck st in boot, fail, drive car out, stop, chuck st in boot, get back in, drive off



Edit: this does boil my piss tbh, why would anyone chose to waste more time parking?

If it is an empty car park, then whatever. If it's a car park with loads of traffic (some who don't realise that doing 30mph in an area with no marked off pedestrian area aka pavement or where children could just run out from between cars is idiotic), then reverse in as it's easier to see whether you are really clear to pull out. Also, you might reverse into a child that you didn't see whereas you will be able to see if there are any obstructions near or in the bay before parking if you reverse (as you have to drive just past it). Plus I'm a man who can do more than 10 pull ups in one go.

Don't worry, it was not a criticism. I am with you on the whole reversing in to a space thing!

it's an 'Always reverse in' for me

I tend to reverse in but that's because the car park I tend to use most of the time gets quite busy, often with traffic queuing in the lanes to exit. It's much easier to get into the queue if you can pull out forwards into the traffic flow rather than waiting with your reversing lights on for a good samaritan to leave you enough space to reverse.
