Passat V5 - oil warning light?

Hopefully just a quick and easy one.
Can anyone confirm whether a 2001 Passat V5 should have an oil pressure warning light? The manual tells me it should have, the AA man I just spoke to tells me it should have, the dealer tells me that "because it's the top of the range" it doesn't.
Obviously I wouldn't expect it to be on all the time, but every other car I've owned or driven has flicked the oil light on for a second when you turn the key, so you at least know it's working.
If anyone has a Passat V5 - the warning lights in the rev-counter work as expected, and the warning lights in the speedo work as expected, and the trip computer bit in the middle works as expected. But I'd expect to see the oil (and coolant, etc.) warning lights in the top third of the panel where the trip computer is, but nothing in there ever seems to light up at all.
Anyone know for certain?
