Ford problems..

Just after some advice all 
Our Fiesta ST failed its MOT today on a "fractured offside front coil spring". We have had it a year and it is 8 days out of warranty. We had been getting a knocking noise from the car and had taken it in for warranty checks twice and both times been told "there is nothing wrong, it must just be stones from the road". (must have been weird stones because it sounded like metal on metal!)
Anyway, I have told our Ford garage (where we bought it) and they are saying it is out of warranty and not their problem. I'm arguing that a quoted £150 worth of repairs is their problem as I had reported it to them and they failed to do anything.
I know it isn't a great deal but its the principle. They have the car and are going to let me know whether they can help.
Any help on how I should approach the whole thing? I have been fairly polite so far!

I don't know whether it is covered, will have to look at the paperwork. Just extremely frustrating that they are so unhelpful.
In his words 'They can brake when the car is parked so nothing we can do mate'... yeah that makes it ok. Your springs aren't particularly strong so its ok for you not to spot it!

Front springs are a weak point on these. I think you will be lucky to get it sorted FOC but if you have advised them of the fault and they failed to diagnose it, I would be pushing hard for them to treat it as an ongoing issue. They will have your car at the moment to see if Ford will cover the claim, if the answer is negative I would write some letters, Dealer Principal, Service Manager, Ford Customer Service (note the distribution on all letters). At the worst after all this I would expect a contribution.
