Brake pads wider than disc?

Just gone to fit new discs and pads, noticed when the discs arrived they were slightly smaller than OEM/standard size... Gone to fit them and the pads over run discs.. Is this going to cause an issue when they wear is or is it 'normal'ish

Quite normal for non OEM stuff.
Just make sure you chip the unworn edge off the pads when it gets serviced.

Surely non OEM discs should be the same size? I'd be sending them back myself.

I've bought non OEM discs for various cars over the years and never know them to be the wrong size.

You've been sent the wrong discs. Easy fix- get the right ones.

I'm sure it would be fine like that for many miles but it's a bodge. What's the point when you can do the job properly at no extra cost?

Normal driving I'd say six months although it's not crucial I may add just I'm a bit OCD!

I had the issue with my 310mm discs for my GTIR and after much searching I came to the conclusion it's ok. Also I've been told by many machanics it's fine.

It's when they are too small that it's a problem.

They are the wrong discs, often on cars there are several options on sizes, send them back, get yourself to someone like Unipart who will do OEM spec parts.

Normal to be sent the wrong discs, yes, but not normal to fit and drive on them. Or are you suggesting that non-OEM manufacturers make the disc smaller on purpose? The diameter of a disc is pretty important.

Get the correct discs, brakes are the last thing you want to fk about with.

just put the old and new discs back to back to confirm the diameter.
I wouldn't fit those.

Jesus christ that is apalling, the discs are wrong. GTIR are you fking mad? never seen non OEM discs fit that badly before, they are clearly the wrong size for the car!

Take them back (with an old disc to show the parts people to help get the correct ones.



That said, the pads might be wrong, but either way, thats not right.

What happens when you neglect to clear off the un-worn pad, or sell the car and forget to tell the new owner to do so, and the unworn pieces meet and effect the braking power?

I can't see an MOT tested passing the brakes in that condition.

I doubt that an accident investigator would approve either if the car was inspected after an accident.

Non-OEM should be a direct replacement for Fit Form and Function ..... Those smaller discs are not correct for the car!

How many do you have on the other side?

I have only ever seen one wire per side.
