What Car, Approx £2000, barge?

My first what car but it is not for me but a workmate.
He has just returned from his jaunt across the world and back and needs something cheap and bigish to run about in for a year until he is back on his feet financially.
His requirements.
Price around £2000.
Sub 100k Milage.
Big enough for Golf Clubs etc.
He has always liked big comfortable cars so 0-60 times not required.
Diesel.
He was on about a VW passat 1.9TDI?
Open to any other suggestions within reason.

The combo of diesel AND sub 100k miles is not going to be easy for under £2k. Most big dervs under £2k will have been driven as they were intended to be... to the moon and back.
But rising to the challenge, I think I'd be trying to find an e34 BMW 525tds. Something like this:

Does it really need to be diesel? Opening it out to petrol would give you a great choice of W124 Mercs and e34 and e39 BMWs.
