Evening all,

I was wondering if you could help, I'm a bit confused after apparently receiving excellent service from an insurance company.

My car was hit by another this evening. Within two hours I had a call purporting to be from their insurance company (well known name) who told me their client accepted full liability and that their repairers (accredited by the manufacturer of my car apparently) would be in touch within 48 hours to pick up my car, drop off a hire car and arrange repairs.

They also said I was free to consult my insurance company but if I didn't I'd have the added advantage of not having it on their records and therefore not having to own up come renewal time.

Is all of this normal? I don't want to get involved with one of these middle men who just wrack up charges. The last bit made me suspicious and I don't understand their motives and am suspicious of their apparently good service. I'm such a cynical old ba***rd.

An advice or tales of your experiences would be welcome so that if there's anything amiss a can halt proceedings.

Thanks.

That's not right - you always have to disclose every incident, whether you're at fault or not, within the time frame specified in the renewal proposal.

How do you know the call was really from an insurance company ?

It all sounds legit, other than the bit about "not having to tell your insurance". Doesn't sound right!

Having said that, years ago I had a non-fault claim and, following a previous experience with accident management companies I simply called their insurance, and to be honest the conversation was much the same- Them rolling over entirely.

Thanks, I know how to sort it now and should have thought of this before. I'll call them on the number they post on their WEB site (not the one they gave me) and quote the ref number and see if they know what I'm talking about.

Thanks for your help.

Good call. Accident management companies can be work in remarkably sly ways and I wouldn't put it past them to "get in first" with a cheeky call. Much like the muppets who call me on a yearly basis, misrepresent themselves as being the "FSA" "doing a survey" and then trying to sell me PPI.

I think insurance companies are very grateful when they get the chance to sort it themselves prior to the application of leeches!

Probably legit, but I'd make damn sure before you allow your car to be loaded onto a flatbed destined for Albania.......
