I don't know if it's just me being an old skinflint, but there are certain cars that I have perceived to top quality that have, on closer inspection, turned out to have some pretty poor quality details on them.

Two examples I can think of immediately are the drivetrain tunnel in a Cayman S, made of plastic I would expect to see in a Daewoo, and that ridiculous extending arial on the XKR. Am I just being silly and expecting too much, or are the manufacturers cutting corners?

Agreed.

Most LED day running lights.

New DS3 being a top example.

Ford Focus - the passenger window switch is completely different from the driver side switch. Looks shoddy and a very el cheapo touch.

Another one I don't like - the little stub that protrudes over the top of mercedes equivalent of idrive. Oh, and the obscene amount of buttons Porsche thinks a centre console needs

Agree, and they don't even use the bottom middle one!

The lack of dipstick on my 130i. I wouldn't say it ruins the car, but it is very annoying. Similarly the Run Flat tyres are a pain in the backside.

DRLs are a good safety feature IMO. But they look rubbish on the DS3 and most Mercs. Questionable on some Audis too. Dead cool on gen II 911s.

Those crappy little blue/green clocks from circa 1978 Datsuns which still appear on Lexus dashboards.

Another is the crystal starter button thing on Aston Martins. I've not driven one but someone I know once lost it in the back of the car when it popped out like a rocket when he pressed it to stop the engine.

The two little fake air vents on the back of the S2 Elise are pretty bad for a car that's meant to be about minimalism. Not that it's an especially good looking car anyway.

The interior of my A5 is not as good as my older A4, both for quality & looks/feel. Anyone notice the silver plastic rim around the air-vents inside - total gash IMO. Not good considering most Audis are sold on the quality of the interiors!
