petrol in diesel engine

help needed, just stuck £6 worth of unleaded into my DIESEL Q7 Stupidly, then realized and added 77 litres of diesel, should be ok no ?

didnt effect my old 525tds, did the same as you, but i dont know if the Q7 will be more sensitive to it? bearing in mind my old car ran off practically anything you chucked in it...

small panicking as if not ok, could be a trifle expensive to repair , here lots of people say, dont drive it must drain it etc audi want 400 quid to do it! fingers crossed and hope for best really

Have done that with the Saab. Again realised about £10 in, so filled it up with diesel and all was well. I think I replaced the filter for the hell of it but possibly didn't need it...

Yeah should be ok, just keep topping it up for a while to keep diluting it.

Back in the days when I used to spend alot of time jumping in and out of different cars I did it a few times to cars with smaller tanks-never had any problems.

You should be Ok with that level of dilution with derv.

The important piece is that you did not start the car, or attempt to drive with just unleaded in the system.

I helped out a neighbor who filled up his PD Passat with petrol, then drove off the forecourt and down the road till the engine stopped.

Had the car recovered home. I drained his tank, replaced the fuel filter, and gave the fuel system a big dose of diesel injector cleaner. I warned him that he may still have issues, but three years later, and 50k and its still running without issue.

Should be fine, it's fairly common practice in Russia to put a little petrol into diesel cars in mid-winter to help very low temp starting.

Really? I didn't think it froze that much lower than winter diesel?

On topic, +1 for the car being fine with such dilution. It's designed for yummy mummys, I'm sure it can cope with occasional stupidity

I would imagine there could be lubrication issues in the fuel injection systems in more modern engines though...

How much diesel did it already have in the tank? I think you should be ok, it should have diluted it enough.

This.About 4 litres petrol to 77 litres diesel is about 5%.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were advised to put this petrol in the tank during winter.

One thing I wouldn't have done is mention it to Audi!

At my last big corporate job, mis-fueling the Audi and BMW fleet was at epidemic proportions, and that's just the ones we knew about. Some people did it multiple times and ran the car until it broke down. We kept the cars for 90K miles and I'm not aware of any problems that resulted.

If you had it to hand, it would be worth bunging some Millers Diesel Power in, but if you've already run the car for a bit then probably a pointless now.
