Odd request from buyer about reciept
Discussion
Sold my ancient VFR750 t’other day to a bloke who came, saw, paid nearly the full price and then collected next day. No problems at all.
The only odd thing was he asked me for a receipt but instead of the £700 that he paid, he asked me to show £400 on the receipt. After checking that that actual price paid was going to be £700 I agreed, not wanting to lose the sale. He didn’t volunteer further information about why he was doing this. Any ideas?

Top Gear "Bike for £400 or less" challenge? The only odd thing was he asked me for a receipt but instead of the £700 that he paid, he asked me to show £400 on the receipt. When I sold my motorbike the chap left me £600 cash in deposit, when I'd only asked for £100.
He then asked that when he came the following day with his wife I'd complete the transaction as if he'd given me £100. No problem, always up for some amateur dramatics.
He was happy, I was happy, and best of all, she was happy.

Reminds me of a story about an old boss. He bought an M3 bumper for his 330 off eBay for £400 but told his wife he only paid £100 for it. He took a Friday afternoon off work to collect it but got caught in the traffic - it turns out that he was supposed to meet his wife but he didn't know what for. He rocks up late and she's fuming - she'd only gone and booked a surprise weekend abroad and they were on the verge of missing their flights.
He got dragged away to the airport and received grief from her for the rest of the evening but he did manage to smooth things over during the course of the weekend.
They arrive back in London and go to collect his car - which is clamped. More grief from the wife whilst they wait for it to be released. They finally get in the car and she finds the receipt for £400 in the footwell! She didn't speak to him for a few days!
We were in tears when he told us on the Monday (he was well under the thumb BTW).
