Best car with a +9 secs 0-60?

Even though I'm a reasonable young man of 24 years with 2 years NCB, my insurance company will only give me good deals on cars that have a higher 0-60 time than 8.9 seconds.

Peugeot's spring to mind, as they generally test cars fully loaded with petrol and everything.

Car's that I've come up with so far:

Peugeot 205 1.6 GTi
Peugeot 106 1.6 Rallye
Peugeot 406 2.0 Turbo (Chipped to 185BHP)


Should say that MX-5's are out of the question as they are +£5K in Denmark, which is over my budget.

That's a strange requirement from an insurance company.

Erm... Diesel Range Rover? If you can't have performance go for luxury and comfort instead.

I would have thought that all the cars you listed will do 0-60 in less than 8.9 seconds.

When I say 0-60 I mean 0-62 MPH, as we use the metric system in Denmark(0-100 KM/H).

But yeah, they often do when tested by motoring magazines etc., but Peugeot's figures are high due to the loading as mentioned in my OP.

Not sure if you are asking if I am. As stated above, I have 2 years NCB and they won't insure anything with a sub 9 second 0-62 unless I have 3 years of NCB

What source do your insurance company accept as proof of 0-62 time? Any magazine test? Manufacturers figures? Bloke down the pub?

An E36 318is Coupe would fit the criteria pretty well. I'm pretty sure they are actually quicker than the quotes 0-60 time and they handle nicely.

I think they mean you should try another insurer who doesn't have this limit. In the UK such a restriction would be very odd and almost unbelievable.

How about a classic? Don't know what the regs are in Denmark, but could you buy an older car then mod it? Many older cars will easily be 11sec or slower to 60mph but likely can be made rather fast without a huge amount of effort or cost.

Forget performance and go out and out wafty/off road instead.

Second hand, most cars with a VAG PD130 engine have manufacturers' figures in the 9s, but (a) most are actually faster (b) the diesel torque makes them feel faster still (c) they can be remapped to be genuinely nippy.

Any car with +9 seconds 0-62 was offered for about £500 a year, which is about 40% less than other insurers. I would rather drive something a tad slower for a year and then get something really interesting.

Impossible to find in good nick, only a couple for sale at the moment which are completely chavved up. Otherwise a great suggestion, would love something RWD, considered a Sierra 2,0i GLX as I had one before and they were decent on running costs and quite fun in the wet.
