Selling a car to a German... he wants a scan of the V5?

I've had some interest in my car from a German, so far he's asked relevant questions and seems to know the cars (it's a Caterham). But he's muttering about whether he can register the car in Germany and has asked for a copy of the V5 so he can check with a dealer.

At which point a small alarm bell started ringing.

Does anyone know about the German system and whether this is correct?

I've sold a couple of cars abroad including to a German gentlemen and he too asked for a scan. nothing to worry about

Remember the V5 is the registered keeper anyway not legal owner.

How old is the car?
some cities have strict emmision regs so he may want to check.

Scan the document once.

Write "COPY" across it diagonally and big in thick felt tip.

Scan it again.

Job done!

I live in Gemrnay - this is pretty normal. He is trying to see if it has the necesary EC compliance numbers to be registered in Germany. Can't do anything here without a piece of paper.....even wiping your arse. Boom boom.
