The locals have it sussed:

There's a magic roundabout in Hemel Hempstead too. God awful piece of pot holed automotive effluent. The challenge is to hit it at exactly 40 mph and negotiate the whole thing with no brakes and no indicators. Works for me.

I was once held up for about 3 hours on the M5 near Weston-Super-Mare because some complete fking idiot had painted a couple of dozen industrial bins in black and white frisian cow spots, and arranged them in a field.

Every single person seemed to slow down to take a look at them. On a Friday afternoon.

(No I didn't slow down to get a picture, but I'm sure a lot of other pricks did.)
