Painting steel wheels

I did this on my steel wheels on the Saxo
I thought it would be a good idea to strip them back to the metal, which it would have been but they had some form of coating on top which wasn't paint. I think it was powder coating.
The nitromors didn't like this material so I had to half sand it and ended up with a horrible result, even worse the areas where I did get to the metal the paint didnt want to stick to at all! So I ended up just doing them with hammerite and a brush :bigthumbs:
They ended up OKAY, but I only had them on a few days !

That's the route I was sort of planning on 
I know you said you only had it on for a few days, but (from a distance at least!) did it look smart?

Best job is get them powdercoated. I just did mine with a Halford's rattlecan (2 primers, 3 coats black satin). The salt has them rotten with rust after one winter.
I just painted them with Vactan which should kill the rust. Stuff the painting.
When you say rotten with rust, do you mean the wheels themselves or the paint? Can paint rust? I just painted them with Vactan which should kill the rust. Stuff the painting.
