It's done 1000 miles. Change the oil and it'll be grand. It's a 1000 mile old Honda engine for god sake.

I'd imagine the poor oul dear popped her clogs shortly after bringing it home, and it took a few years to pay off the finance.

I agree with McSam. It most likely won't have any stamps in the service book, making the low mileage worthless. If the OP buys it and sticks on 9000 miles, when he comes to sell it the car will look mighty suspicious and most people will just assume its been clocked and walk away.

Aren't these supposedly the engines with recorded failures though? Low mileage can surely only be a positive impact on the rest of the car. Having said that £7k does seem a little steep

Everything siezing up through lack of use isn't what most would regard as a positive impact.

If it was owned by an elderly person it was probably paid for in cash rather than on finance. However if they became unable to drive and the car was either sold on their behalf or by an Executor it may have been standing idle for quite some time.
My FiL sold his little-used car after he was admitted to a Nursing home but it had been idle for 18 months before that due to his illness.

Probably driven once a week to the Post Office to collect the pension. Engine probably NEVER reached proper temps and 4th and 4th gear cogs have cobwebs on them....probably.
