Brake advice please?

My brakes are causing vibration through the steering wheel.

I was going down a hill, and braked lightly resulting in this vibration.

It's almost like an off balance / buckled wheel, in that it's a slow vibration.

Oddly enough, even after the event the steering wheel oscillated slowly in the same way as described above.

But once everything had cooled down, no more vibration / oscillation.

The brakes work well too - as I tested them by stomping on the pedal at about 50 mph, on a private access road.

I did wonder if this was symptomatic of glazed pads, or is the disks themselves are warped?

I don't have the means to perform a run out test.

I was however wondering if it's worth changin the pads first - or just going for both new discs and pads?

Finally - I inspected the discs this morning, and there is quite a lip on the edge, so not sure if new pads would be enough?

The discs will either be warped or have a rust/brake pad deposit on them. If they are already worn just fit new discs + pads.

There is no such thing as warped discs! If it is the brakes causing the problem, there will be an uneven deposit of pad material on the discs which will cause the vibration.

...or you've got some worn suspension component(s).

I would suggest you have somebody use a DTI gauge on the dics and check the run out. Sounds like a warped disc

Unless you parked your car too close to the sun, it doesn't have warped discs.

Checking the discs with a gauge might show the unevenly deposited pad material, or it might not. If the discs have a large lip they sound like they need replacing anyway, but if the OP is getting vibration when the brakes are NOT being applied, discs are not the main issue.
