bmw idle problem

hi guys im new to this and im looking for advice ive got a bmw 323i 2.5ltr it has a small problem when the car is just idiling it seems the revs go up and down every now and then when you listen it sounds like its sucking air in from somewhere then the engine dips then goes back to normal when i drive the car it seems fine can anyone help

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak some where, check for any splits and cracks on all the hoses on and around the air intake,throttle body, etc,

would be no harm to clean your idle control valve while your at it.

hope that gives you some clues what to look for.

Like Jack says, first thing would be to give the ICV a good clean out with carb cleaner.

fiver says it's a split in the intake elbow, hiding in one of the corrugated creases.

a virtual fiver, obviously.

He means the 'bellows' type corrugations on the hose (see pic)

^^^^^^^^It would be the first thing that I would remove and thoroughly check.

i did find the air pipe that goes to the throttle was ripped where another pipe from underneath meets it the two are attached with a elbow piece i replaced this the other day the pipe that comes from underneath has small slits all around the edge havent replaced this as yet another trip to bmw,the car is booked into my local garage on tuesday for another wee fault with the abs light on i have replaced abs sensors and wheel bearings and hub on both sides the computer should up something on the abs a inner valve left ,when the car is in on tuesday going to get him to clean idle control valve

Hopefully you get it sorted. I had an inconsistent idle on my E46 and it was just a hose.

can anyone help im also looking for a good leather repair man to fix a rip on my leather seats and fix the worn bolster and colour the seats back to new , im in scotland so someone in the central belt would be good,
