Does buying a 2nd hand car have to be so much work?

So i have been looking to trade up....
Based on the many recommendations on this site i have alomst settled on a 2002 M5 or a 2004 M3....... the only issue is finding one with the right spec, the right colour, right mileage and at a dealer where i can trade my current car in!
Currently trying to sell private but no luck right now (its priced at the higher end) plus its been modified a litte, so will depend on buyer.
My experience over the past month.........
Perfect M3 came up, was sold within a few days (not suprisingly).
Saw an M3 at a garage. Been in a crash.
Another M3 didnt have the 19's.
ALL M5's are quite a distance away down south.
The vast majority of dealers have not got back to me. Phone AND email.
Most M5's have quite high mileage, ones who dont seem to be the preface lift versions.
Is finding the right car, at the right price and selling your own car have to be this difficult/time consuming/frustrating and boring?
At this rate, i will just go buy an AE86 in Dover and save myself a good chunk of change!

drive both with 18s and 19s and if you like driving you will go for the 18" wheels anyway on the M3. If using the BMW dealer look on their coming soon pages to see trade in deals etc. that they don't have yet but are going to be in stock soom - most good cars never end up on the main for sale section. Call your local dealers with your want list and get them to keep a watch out as some might be turning away some trade in cars you would want to buy.
But you'll wait a lot longer for one to drop on your doorstep. Boredom leads to impatience and usually involves compromising. Watch you don't end up buying something nearby that wasn't quite what you wanted but "will do". You'll be forever irked at the ideal one you let go because it was 300 miles away.
