Crazy quote from Adrain Flux. Do they not want my business?
Discussion
Have been insured through Adrian Flux for about 8 years old, insuring various fast ish cars, Golf GTI, BMW 328i, Audi A4 quattro, Mini Cooper, Saab 95 Aero etc. All were insured for less than £420, fully comp with protected no claims, most cost around £350.
Have just gone back to them asking for a quote on an 2003 e46 BMW 318i Touring and they now want £681. Smaller engine than the 328i, least powerful car so far, lower value etc but more money!!
They said it would be through Aviva and was the best they could do. Quotes i did directly were all around £350 from Admiral, Bell etc.
Why are Adrian Flux suddenly giving me silly prices on a smaller engined more sensible car? Do they not want my business anymore?
I wanted to be with them as I plan to change cars to something more exciting in about 6 months (Civic Type R probably) so wanted to be with a company that would give me a good price when I do change. But AF seem to be purposely pricing themselves out of contention.
Are AF generally pretty poor for quotes these days? Was really disapointed. Also their customer service sucks, very abrupt and impolite girl I spoke to.
Anyone recommend a company that might be competitive on the e46 BMW now and the CTR in a few months time?

Yeah, Bell, Elephant and Admiral all gave me the best quotes, just not sure they will be any good when I change to a more powerful car in 6 months time.
Was disapointed that AF no longer want me, been together for so long, had some good times and I was no hassle to them, I only called them once a year to give them money. I guess we're over...

They don't seem to like anything that can't be classed as a performance/modified car at all.
I took on a heavily modified car in part-ex and they were the only people that would insure it for a reasonable price but as soon as I managed to get rid of it and just get a little Puma as a run around they asked for a further £200 to transfer for the remaining 6 months!
Looks like even more lost no claims bonus for me.

yep looks like because I've gone 'sensible' for a little while they purposely price themselves out of the market. Stupid really as its easy money for them, I must be low risk with 15 years n/c and a less powerful car surely.
When I change to something more powerful in six months I'll probably suffer with admiral though which is annoying.
Over the years have heard so much against AF on these forums but never encountered it, finally have today I think.

I had a quote for switching cars on my policy with them recently, and they quoted me very unhappy..I went online whilst on the phone to them and used a well known comparison site, where I found 15+ quotes fully comp cheaper than their 3rd party quote!!..the one I eventually went with was half as much! they wouldn't offer a fully comp quote on the vehicle!..a 1999 E36 323 BMW Convertible!..so not exactly a supercar, and I only have 3 points for speeding on my licence, with no own fault claims in the last 10 years!..unbelievable really, they didn't seem bothered to be losing my business. I, needless to say, will never be using AF again. Annoying as the adverts for the comparison site are you can't really beat them in my opinion.
Hello,
If you change your car mid term you are given the best price from the company you would have been with at the start of the policy. The prices in those cases are set by each individual insurer. When you call us to change the car we can look at quotes from other insurers but by the time you have cancelled one policy and taken out another you may be worse off.
As I have posted on other forums, if you have any issues you would like me to look at please feel free to PM me and I will see what can be done.
Thanks
Ash

Never a truer word spoken. I sold my Defender 50th recently which had been on cover for 3 months and received the princely sum of £57 back. Once Flux had taken their "admin fee" and the insurer had taken their bit it totalled over £200 for 3 months insurance.by the time you have cancelled one policy you may be worse off.
Ash
Never again.

I'm not changing my car mid term. Just looking for a competitive quote on a reasonable car. As I said to start with, for the last 8 years AF have insured me on some warmish cars for a good price. Now I get something slightly more sensible and AF give me a ridiculous price, over double what I have been paying on better cars.If you change your car mid term you are given the best price from the company you would have been with at the start of the policy. I appreciate AF advertise themselves as high performance insurance brokers but its not like I'm trying to insure a Kia shopping cart. AF have insured me in the past on a 318i coupe, yet now its a touring they don't want to know.

I agree with you that sounds a bit odd. If you want to PM me your details I will be able to have a proper look then and hopefully sort something better out.I appreciate AF advertise themselves as high performance insurance brokers but its not like I'm trying to insure a Kia shopping cart.
