2004 Scenic handbrake - front or rear wheels?

For reasons to boring to post on here, I need to find out if the handbrake on my parents 54 plate "new shape" Scenis 1.5DCi operates on the front or rear wheels. Goolgling just shows up a load of faults.

Could you not try and handbrake turn it to find out?

Especially if it's one of those electric ones, wang it on mid-corner and see what happens. 1.5DCi? Urgh!

Lift up the carpet in the boot where the spare wheel is and you will see a red cover about 100mm long pull that up and the emergency relase is under that , pull the yellow handle and it will relase the handbrake .


Rear brakes, sir.

Just to add, the car nearly 1000 mile away in the south of France ATM, or else I'd have had a look.

Anyone got an idea? I know on my old BX and Xantia it was on the front wheels, those French do some weird stuff.

Rears on the scenic have one at the moment in work that needs a new engine only done 60000 miles enough said really. Hateful, hateful cars.

Some older citroens and saabs have their handbrakes on the fronts, and I'm sure there will be other cars that have had them.

But yes, these days, I would imagine 100% of cars made have the handbrake on the rear.

Scenic electronic handbrakes are on the rear.

1.5dCi is a very good engine considering the economy returned!

The thing has one of those electronic parking brakes. The car suffered a blowout this morning on the front passenger side tyre. My Mum reckons there was some smoke (sounds like tyre smoke) then it blew so I thought maybe the handbrake had jammed on but obviously not. I think maybe something has come adrift and rubbed against the tyre, then caused it to blow out. I've told her to try and get some pictures of the remains of the tyre and the suspension so I can see if there's anything obvious. I doubt AA european recovery will be interested in recovering a £3k car 1000 miles back to Britain?

The Scenic has a poorly designed front spring mount that will allow the spring to unwind if the spring fails. This will be fine in a straight line and you wouldn't notice the spring break but as soon as a slight lateral load is applied the spring can slip and will easily tear through a tyre.

The AA would recover unless your folks are having to claim via their insurance for damage to the car, in which case the insurer would have to decide whether to pay or not.

Spot on he have had loads of times where espically citroen and renault when springs snap will go into tyres. The quality of new springs are st these day we have had 3 springs go on the same side within 18 month of each other

Nope several cars have handbrakes on the front citroen c5 and c6 i believe other cars have them but cant remember at this time.
