Anyone ever owned a Unimog?

Just about to buy one of these for my business and have some questions:

1) Fuel consumption? Have heard that can be classed as an agricultural vehicle and run on red. Anyone confirm?
2) What to look for/avoid when buying?
3) Speed? Apparently it tops out at 50mph, which is fine by me.
4) Fun factor?

That will be the ultimate winter toy. Never mind the gridlocked snowy roads. You can climb up the kerb and drive along the snowy embankments

An acquaintance of mine has/had one in Germany.

He used it to haul timber from his forest to his 17th Century Bavarian farmhouse in the foothill of the Alps!

Lot of fun! I had a couple of 404's, ex military petrol models.

That one looks like a 406? The older ones like that probably don't have synchro.

Normalbloke on here had a U1000 (I think). The more modern ones are faster, more comfortable and easier to drive...

You can't run them on red, unless you're using it mostly in fields, and it's only on the road going between field and farm. Same as tractors - if you're using a tractor for road hauling, then you must use white diesel.
