Petrol Siphoning

Just a quick heads up

As I left my flat this morning I saw 5 cars that had had their petrol flaps forced open and were missing petrol caps

There were another 3 or 4 which looked damaged as if people had been attempting to open them but couldn't, I can only assume we've had a gang come around stealing petrol so just making people aware

Not a massive response I thought people would be up in arms about this

Anyway an update, reported it to the BiB who were most helpful and will send a car down to check it out

The OH though did come up with a good suggestion which is to ensure your car is parked with the petrol cap facing the road, makes sense as all the ones I noticed had the caps facing the pavement (hence me noticing them) allowing the s to hide I guess

I'm fortunate. I drive an RX8, so there's never any fuel in the tank to be siphoned...

Round here they just put a screwdriver into the tank underneath the car and collect from there - save trying to get a syphon to work when modern cars have anti syphon devises fitted

Haulage company near to me had 15 truck's tanks 'stabbed' at the weekend.

Didn't really get much in the way of diesel, probably cpl hundred litres but caused over £30k worth of damage.

Sorry bit of a sense of humour failure maybe but it just seems like part of this sites inevitable decline that people look to get a 'humourous' reply in for lulz rather than discuss issues that affect all of us and IMO will only get worse

As said above, most, if not all, cars have anti syphoning devices fitted and have done since about the mid 80's.

I tried syphoning the fuel out of an '89 Cavalier (which belonged to me), it's impossible to push a tube down into the tank.

Surely it would be easier these days to just punch a hole in the bottom of the fuel tank? It can't be that thick steel.

I wasn't aware but then I have never had to do it, for legitmate reasons or otherwise

Boba you are right, whilst BHeath and Greenwich are very nice, the surrounding areas are like a who's who from the Jeremy Kyle show
