And of course the last thing you want is to have your capacity to scan the road for upcoming hazards compromised by the need to look out for both mobile and fixed speed cameras. The answer to this knotty problem is of course the good-ol' speed camera detector.
Which is where the latest fantastic, money-can't-buy PH giveaway comes in - we're offering one lucky PHer the chance to get their hands on RoadPilot's new smartphone-based GPS speed camera detector app, RoadPilot Mobile, plus a year's subscription to their service.
Oh, all right, if you're going to be picky it is actually a money-can-buy prize - you can download the app from Nokia's online Ovi app store - but it's still pretty good (we reckon).
Of course, you might not have a smartphone, so we'll also chuck in a Nokia N8, plus an in-car cradle and charger.
The genius of the RoadPilot Mobile app is that, as well as covering more than 5500 fixed speed camera sites and known mobile sites, the latest updates to the database can be set to download automatically to your phone whenever the application is opened.
Better still, there's a real-time alert facility, which enables motorists to notify other RoadPilot Mobile users if there is a mobile police speed-checking vehicle present at a particular location.

I wonder how the filth view these type of apps. Surely warning other motorists of a speed trap is interfering with the filth's detection of crime. Which is why they nicked that motorist recently for flashing his lights at oncomming traffic.

its only inevitable though that as cars and phones integrate more and more sharing data such as real-time traffic will get more and more common.
as soon as your car slows down and the satellite begins to receive signals from several other cars on the same road it can "guess" there's a traffic jam there.
as for police camera's i feel its inevitable that some law will use the same technology as above to penalise drivers. insurance has started using this so will the dib.
