foreign buyers??

had a number of e mails from buyers from abroad wanting to pay me with paypal/relative picking up and shipping to them in Brazil/Switzerland etc


anyone had any experience of this sort of thing? I smell a rat!

I can't why anybody living in Brazil would want to buy a car from the UK. Surely it would be much cheaper over there? Especially with shipping costs etc... I wouldn't even give it a second thought, I'd sell to UK only.

That enquiry looks like a scam, but I wouldn't completely ignore foreign fellow European buyers. Due to the Sterling/Euro rate we are the poor people of Europe, so a lot of our cars seem bargains, and for some RHD is a price worth paying. Over the last year I have sold my old Bentley to a guy in Belgium, never met him .. but phone calls/emails. Bank transfer all cleared and picked up by his mate. My old XJS-C .. again all phone/email half fee bank transfer, half on collection, all worked a treat. And recently my winter Pajero, easy cash sale to a Polish guy who was planning to drive it back to Poland .. and convert it to LHD, and he reckoned this was still cheaper than buying locally.

So I wouldn't dismiss all foreign buyer, there are scammers & dheads all over the UK as well as the rest of the world !.

I think common sense is the key to this.

the e mail from the swiss guy has given me his brothers contact details. He said his brother will inspect the car, pay with bankers draft then arrange for import.

sounds a bit suspect to me. Is there anything I need to be aware of?

Yes, its a scam.

I have that email at least 3 times a week from my adverts.

They were so dim the other night that they emailed me about THREE of my cars within minutes of each other with that exact wording.

im from switzerland, and i know few UK hooligans who wants to scam us,so thats fair..

Is Paypal ever used by authentic buyers for car purchases or is it just the tool of the scammer?

tbh I would go for it as long as you get confirmation from the bank that the payment is 100% not going to be recalled.

Ok there are the dodgy obvious scams, but they are not all scammers, I transport loads of cars & boats to Europe for private & trade folks who've bought stuff over here- usually sight unseen.

Sometimes their English may not be great, but Uk cars are just so cheap for many European folk that they will try & battle on anyway, as the savings can be massive.

I got this one today, slightly different and an extra twist on the deafness so can't phone, but all the same.

I am an Oceanographer and i am buying this for Dad, i am at sea right now, I can only pay through PayPal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank account online,but i have it attached to my PayPal account, and this is why i insisted on using PayPal to pay,all i will need is your PayPal email address to make the payments,and if you don't have a paypal account yet,its pretty easy to set one up at www.paypal.co.uk,i wil be expecting your email.I have a pick up agent that will come for the pick up after payments.I will like to have communicate and discuss this via Phone but i am 95% Deaf and i do use hearing piece so that was why i have prefer to communicate more through Mail ...So kindly get back to asap...i need to see more photos also and i will like to know the last asking price.
