My sister has a Toyota Avensis Verso MPV

its been having turbo cut out problems in the last 6-8 months. the garage cleaned it out it was fine for a few weeks but then it cut out again. he did advise her at the time it may need replacing.

2 months ago she had the local garage replace the turbo but unfortunately it didnt stop the problem.

she went back and was informed it was a component that fixes onto the turbo that also requires replacement. she paid for the component but no labour was charged that time.

she's taken it to the local toyota garage today and the turbo is leaking oil now.

What would you advise for the next step? I give my own car to him and its been fine - no issues but then i've never had a turbo replaced - just your MOT and service.

If the turbo was replaced with a new one give it back to them and tell them to fix FOC.. end of!

Only thing is she's given it to the dealership for an MOT who discovered this leak. so i assume she'll be telling them to fix the leak.

If there is an oil leak near or from the turbo it's likely to be either the oil seals in the turbo itself (unlikely as it's new or was it reconditioned?) or a leak from one of the oil feed lines, they attach to the turbo using a banjo style fitting like brake lines.

The garage could have incorrectly refitted them when they replaced the turbo or didnt replace the washers (normally a use once crush washer) and are therefore now leaking.

Best to take it back to the garage that did the turbo replacement and subsequent work and get them to take a look at it.
