Blue badges and double yellows

I've nothing whatsoever against parking concessions for (genuine) blue badge holders, I think they should get all the help they can frankly.
But I don't understand why the law says they're entitled to park on double yellow lines.
Surely if double yellow lines have been put down it's because parking there will cause a problem, so how does a blue badge make that parked car less of a problem?

Double yellow lines may well have in the distant past put down in places that may cause a problem, but as normal now with regards to motoring a good proportion are merely to raise a lot of cash.But I don't understand why the law says they're entitled to park on double yellow lines.

Good for you. Pity not all have such common sense.It seems round my way they're used as a magic pass.
In fact, I've just remembered many years ago going out for a meal with a friend's parents, the father being disabled. "I'll bring my blue badge" says he "then you can park right outside". I politely declined, dropped them outside and parked somewhere away from the four way traffic light controlled junction where my car wouldn't actually be in every-bodies way.

My wife has a blue badge, and needs one (completely knackered hip joint, loads of surgery in the past), but would never dream of parking where she causes an obstruction.
However, outside the pub/restaurant at the top of our road (which has a large parking lot behind it anyway), where there is a tricky-enough turning out onto the busy high street, there are often three or four cars showing badges parked on the double yellow lines, right up to the corner itself. The owners often appear to have little in the way of trouble other than a surplus of body mass, altough I am sure many have non-visible problems. I have never seen one ticketed, the cops from the cop-shop directly opposite the end of our road take no notice, and the residents parking militia ignore them totally. Grrr...

DittoI'll never ever park in a manner that would bugger up the flow of traffic or put anyone at danger, in fact I've had abuse from people after I've told them they're parking selfishly/stupidly. Only last week a fellow badge holder and her mother laughed (yes laughed - c**ts) at me when I pointed out - that two vehicles could've easily parked in the bay that they were parked smack bang in the middle of. some people really should take a journey to the centre of the solar system : )
I've noticed blue badge holders parking anywhere they like. SOME blue badge holders appear to believe that they are entitled to park on double yellows, loading bays and even on high streets. Why can't they just be happy with the many disabled spaces in car parks, which are right next to the door?
Traffic wardens won't ticket them as I expect they'll be accused of disability discrimination
I'm in favour of those requiring blue badges being issued with them, but I do see abuse of the system. I believe the badge is issued to the car and not the driver? Nothing stopping a perfectly able bodied person using their parents car and taking advantage of the blue badge parking options??

As a blue badge holder myself (2 major back ops), what I find bloody frustrating is the amount of people borrowing them from aunty or similar!
Or, & I have come across this quite a bit lately is for non badge holders to park in a disabled bay, driver stays in car watching out for wardens whilst
wife/mum/alien go off shopping.
Case in point, I was living in High Wycombe last year & there are disabled bays along the main high street, as it was Xmas the place was packed, and not a single disabled bay was free.
I parked in the multi story in the end, but I counted 3 cars in blue bays, driver sitting behind the wheel...no badge!
I don't like using the badge, I don't see it as a 'perk' in fact I would gladly not have it if it meant not suffering with back pain 24/7.

I use mine on double yellows near the Bristol Royal Infirmary as the car park is miniscule (and full after 8am!) and there are only 4 disabled spaces within 0.5 miles.
As others have said I too park wihtout causing obstruction - always think first/ BiB friend of mine ticketed a driver for outrageously bad parking. They didn't like it but he stuck to his guns
