I saw a Cygnet in our village the other day. Defo face-palm moment.

I don't think manufacturers of expensive motor cars like AM and RR are bringing out these little cars because they want to, it's to reduce their average CO2 output so we shouldn't be too hard on them. . . .

To be fair you can splash out £35k on a Mini as is. To have one specced up by Rolls Royce and be a limited run, £50k isn't too bad.

Although I must admit I do like the idea of very luxurious small cars, but preferably built by the manufactures and not another cheap small car tarted up.

At least you'd get a decent interior and reasonable driving experience with the MINI, and they haven't tried to squeeze the grille from a Phantom onto it. Looks like any other MINI outside, I quite like it.

We've been through all this before with the AM Cygnet.
Do you want Aston Martin and Rolls Royce to spend their (large bur ultimately finite) R&D budget on sports cars and big luxury cars, or developing a mini platform?

I think it makes complete sense to 'tart up' a standard small car just enough to meet the rules for it being allowed to count as part of their 'range' for 'average CO2' purposes. Then get back the actual job in hand of building exotica.

Yes yes yes I know we've been through it before I understand all the reasons, I also realise its far cheaper for them to using an existing model rather than design and build one from ground up.
What I was trying to say is I would like for them to build one from ground up to see what sort of vehicle they could come up with .

It's as old as the hills though. Back when Radford trimmed Aston Martins and Wood & Picket did Rolls-Royces, they also trimmed out Minis too. Owners of such cars included John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Peter Sellers and Twiggy.

They should have gone further - a mini with mock Rolls Ghost grill, headlights, satin bonnet and wheels would be brilliant. The should put things like a cigar case and a champagne chiller in there too. RR badges and a Spitit of Ecstasy would finish it off a treat!

If the AM Cygnet saves the likes of the DBS etc, and this RR small car saves the likes of the Phantom Drophead etc, then I'm all for it.

Ah, the spiritual successor to the "Vanden Plas" models of the 70s and 80s!

Not bad - I'm glad they haven't gone OTT on the exterior and kept it relatively subtle.

Is that a "real" picture of it on the Autocar link? It says it's based on a Cooper S, but has no bonnet scoop. Does this imply that the scoop is not required for cooling and is purely cosmetic?

Also, the bonnet scoop on the mkII Cooper S is purely cosmetic.
