Supercar Delivery Driver Wanted

Sounds a few steps up from a DHL Sprinter to us...

Don't drive like this if you want the job
Don't drive like this if you want the job
As enjoyable jobs for petrolheads go, a gig in motoring journalism ain't a bad way to make a living. We get to drive exotic cars in interesting places, which is pretty nice, really.

But what if you can't (or don't want to) write about the experience afterwards?

It doesn't stop some PH staffers, you might say (but only if you were being cruel). Even so, how about a job where you get to drive all manner of supercars and - er - that's it...?

Sounds too good to be true, but Staffordshire-based repairacar.co.uk is actually looking for someone to shuttle supercars between owners and workshops.

The job of Delivery Driver (Supercar Class) will mean the opportunity to drive all sorts of supercars (think Aston, Porsche, Ferrari and even possibly Pagani or Bugatti), which is genuinely fab, but it does come with caveats. You'll need at least 10 years experience of driving high-performance vehicles, as well as a clean licence (which leaves only Garlick in the running here at PH HQ). Oh, and you'll have to make half the journey on public transport, although Repairacar will foot the bill for that.

If you fancy it, fit the bill, and can bear to rub shoulders with the great unwashed on our nation's buses and trains, then the salary is around the £30k mark, and applications are open until the end of April...

I can think of worse ways to spend the day. Lovely little retirement job, that one.

Bet they thought this was a great idea to get some free advertising for the job vacancy, they'll soon regret it when they've got a server full of 17 year olds CVs biggrin

I don't think I could do such a job, the experience of driving the machines would be great, but I'm not disciplined enough hehe

Think I saw this somewhere else and wondered then, as now, how many people are there that have 10 years experience of driving supercars that would work for £30k per year? I guess some mechanics from appropriate dealerships may fit the bill?

As mentioned, driving those cars in the way which you would have to for this job could be very frustrating rather than satisfying. And can you imagine getting out of a Bugatti and then joining the bus queue!

It will probably be for insurance purposes and if that is the case they can. If they can't get the driver insured, said driver cannot do the actual job (would be covered by one of the many clauses in the Age Discrimination act).

10 years experience of driving high performance cars?

I'll do it!

I've had an MX5 (S-Spec, wooo!), an XR2 (a special lightweight model- it had no inner wings), an Ignis Sport (giant killer) and a C-max (it was the 1.8 one so it must be high performance...!)

With experience of thoroughbred sportscars like those they are bound to take me seriously!

Where do I sign up???

Its a problem for many young people working in car dealerships. Quite a few places can't get under 25s insured on anything more powerful than a diesel rep-mobile.

EDIT- And just to start an argument, how do you define a "high performance car". You can get a 150mph hatchback these days biggrin

Would be funny if it just turned out you drive the truck with the car on the back of it.

Insurance is fine at 25 years but they can't put 10 years experience, it's against the law to advertise job with specific service related length experience where suitable experience could be demonstrated in less of the time period. If you know how to drive a supercar car you know how to drive a supercar, Sebastian Vettel is the current F1 world champion is 23 more than qualified for this job but I bet he hasn't been driving supercars for 10 years.

I wouldn't use any company that intended to send my Veyron/Pagani etc back to me after repairs on anything less than a purpose built covered trailer.

It does not stipulate what age you actually have to be...

If wanted to recruit a lawyer they'd be needing a law degree!

Age discrimination is just that so while they cannot say 17yr old drivers need not apply, requesting qualifications that exclude the unqualified is not age discrimination.

I'm sure if Mr Vettel needed to make some pocket money they might consider him hehe but bear in mind the comment that was made over the weekend that Vettal is only just old enough to hire a car at GP weekends, that's not classed as Age discrimination just a rule smile

So basically they are looking for someone who has 10 years experience 'DELIVERING' supercars.

If you have 10 years experience driving supercars then you have either owned them or tested them. Either way 30k is not going to tempt them.

Agreed, exactly what I was thinking.

Oh, and most cars that 'need repair' probably shouldnt/wouldn't be driven on the public roads anyway.

Sorry simply by stating 10 years experience you are falling foul of age discrimination whether there's a good reason for it or not.

They need to rewrite and state exactly what type for experience they want that will add up to the same thing.

It would be quite easy to state experience of driving all Ferrari models produced since 1990, Bugatti's etc and get what they needed there is no need to state 10 years experience and they are foolish for doing so. If there is a limit due to insurance then state it, it is fine.

Lol, yes they do like to shed weight in the form of oxide...

And I agree - I wouldn't want to trust my car to a company who drove it to and from the point of collection. Curtain side car transporters / trailers etc are the tool of choice!

Interesting ish job though - I used to make a bit of weekend cash ferrying cars from wholesaler to dealer etc though the most interesting things I drove were Subaru/A6 diesel/MR2 so not exactly super...

Just looked at their web page www.repairacar.co.uk and I'm calling this a "lets get free marketing/advertising via car websites bullst" story

As if you'd ever send you're Veyron or Ferrari anywhere near this lot.....
