Buying a Private Reg Plate - what do I need to do?

Possibly going to be buying a private registration from eBay. The reg is still assigned to the car. What do I need to do to get it to my car and what will the costs be?

The owner of the plate will need to add your name to the transfer/retention form when they take it off the current vehicle.

It'll cost them something like £80 to transfer it off the vehicle or £105 to place the plate on retention for a year.

Cheers for the reply but is it as easy as that? Just been reading the V317 form that needs to be filled out and its saying that his car and my car V5 documents both have to be sent off - unless I am reading it wrong?

Get the plate onto a retention cert then put it on your car, then you'll need your V5 / MOT send to or take to the nearest DVLA office with the ret cert

Can't imagine the seller will want to pay the £105 for 1 years retention and i'm not paying it!

It's going to cost him £80 for the transfer anyway so another £25 shouldn't be a problem.
