Long shot but if anyone here was one of the kind people who flashed me on the Whitchurch Bypass (Shrops) earlier this aft' - thanks!
My side of the carriageway had gone from 1 lane to 2 lanes and as the 2 cars in front were doing about 50 I went for the overtake, increased speed but as soon as I moved over (increasing speed very quickly!) I was confronted with about 3-4 vehicles coming the other way flashing me frantically. What I hadn't seen was a scamera van in a layby up ahead, quickly braked and pulled back inbetween the 2 cars, will just have to wait and see now. Anyhow I'm very grateful to the two vans and two cars who were flashing like mental, nearly brought a tear to the eye.
(I know it's a cool story etc but just a reminder to help each other out where we can

Scamera Vans are automated and therefore from a legal point of view you are not obstuctiing an officer. However an officer with a hand held speed camera can be obstructed. So Scamera Vans by all means flash to make on coming drivers aware there is a hazard ahead. Manual speed traps a single flash followed by a left hand thumbs down to warn on coming traffic there is a radiation sorce ahead is all you can legally do.

Amusingly some months later my stepfather was fined for giving the same speed trap the middle finger.

Was it Section five of the Public Order Act? Didn't think it would count in the "privacy" of your own vehicle. Amusingly some months later my stepfather was fined for giving the same speed trap the middle finger.

I usually give the Scamera operators the V-sign, but my hand is still on the steering wheel and I could well just be tapping along to music Driving whilst not in full control of the vehicle, Driving without due care and attention if his hand was out of the window. Wouldn't be doing anything to Plod of any sort though!WRT being done for warning others, from what I can make out from the linked article, the motorist failed the 'attitude test' as so the officer decided to take it further.
