Over the past week I've seen three vehicles with blue flashing lights housed within the dash area with fairly low volume stty sounding 'sirens' driving like tools.

None of the cars were unmarked plod, so what makes these people think they can get away with this sort of thing.

What's the penalty for this sort of offense as they will eventually be caught by unmarked cars and given an ass reaming.

p.s. No I didn't manage to catch the reg numbers.

This should answer your question. This guy fitted blue lights to his car and did his own policing after his application to join the police was turned down. He was sentenced to 12 months community service, fined £100 and banned from driving for six weeks. I didn't realise this kind of thing was so common.

three in a week?! Sounds like it must be a local 'yoff craze or something similar.

You are sure it wasnt the local fire chief on the way to a call out? I'm sure ours drives a slightly ropey looking focus - just plain red.

Doctors use green flashing lights, if at all. Fire officer would be my gues, based on what I've seen near to me.

Not with blacked out windows they weren't.

The first instance was two Seats together. A Leon and an Exeo. They appeared to be racing each other around a roundabout.

I saw this yesterday on the main dock road through Liverpool. They were driving down the middle of the road trying to get the traffic to part, in a 2004 Mondeo. I was suspicious of the lights etc but the big give away was the half-arsed siren. I caught up with the car as they tried to turn left across 2 lanes of stationary traffic and the occupants were definitely not coppers. I would have reported it if I wasn't so lazy.

Sorry, I meant paramedics/first responders types. I thought they were permitted blues on their own vehicles?

I could still be wrong though!!
