Am I stupid?

Hi guys,

Basically, im 20, self employed and doing pretty well...

I've had a few nice cars, nothing fast, but always been something nice looking in my opinions - Favourite being Seat Leon sport with BTCC K1 kit (Albeit a 1.6 petrol engine!)

I eventually got sick of being worried about it, being a 10k car, paranoia got the better of me, so I sold it to get a Fiesta Zetec S TDCI - I have already had one, knew it was 'ok' to drive, and economical

I've had it 4 months and i've done 4,000 miles - I just happen to have been doing a lot of work out of my local area, and with 52mpg I tend to drive anywhere for no reason...But..

I want something fun, the ZS is alright, but just not really special...

I've found a clio 182 cup in Inferno red, with 57k on it and its only £3800 (down from £4500) and my fiesta will sell for 6k easily, I'm just worried im making a stupid mistake given i'm doing quite a bit of miles (Will drop from now on though really)...

My plan is to gradually prep it for some track days, and hopefully get back into the Sunday afternoon drives out across the dales that a 1.6 derv engine doesnt inspire me to do....

What would you do?

fk it, just get it and have fun
Be sensible, would it be practical?

Yes, you are stupid...


if you genuinely believe a spiced-up 2L hatchback is impractical. Seriously, its still a shopping car even if its quicker and more fun than most.

Yes it will be fine no it probably will not break down every week. Had mine for 13 months and all thats needed done except servicing was a new manifold to cat fitting kit as the bolts were rusting away.

The only thing you need to check is if the cam and aux belts have been done at the right time or you will have a bill for around £500 coming up.

Major service was done 12 months ago including belts so that's ok..

I have no idea if my things will fit in it for work...hence thinking it stupid

A Clio 182 is not impractical.

It's a modern hatchback, it isn't like you're planning on having a Williams Clio or Pug 205 GTi as a daily driver. I want to do this, my dad thinks I'm borderline insane, as does the OH, but I call it being a petrolhead.

Do it. I ran a tuned Renault 5 Turbo with a completely stripped interior as a daily driver - it was hilarious. I don't really qualify anything that has a roof, will behave itself sitting in traffic and carry a passenger as impractical.

It's only marginally less sensible than your fiesta (losing by about 20 mpg) but yet many times more fun. Get it.
