in car camera for everyday use...

hey people,

i'm thinking about installing a small camera, linked to ha hard drive that will come on when the car is started and record my entire journey, i have seen Taxi's with this system and think it would be useful to have any "incidents" caught on camera.

are there systems available on the open market, or would i have to put it all together myself?

could it be beneficial to insurnce too?

just an idea at the moment but i think it would be a good back up to have.

I've seen this question asked a lot - why put something in your car that is self incriminating?

true, but i thought it could be tucked away in the roof lining or somewhere else not obvious. i'm not talking about having a handicam dangling from the mirror (the more covert, the less likely some scrote will see it and steal it)

i can imagin. i liked the youtube of the knobhead doing 125. i dont think you could forget it was there so why would you so blatantly drive like a dick when you've got the system on? as i dont regularly drive @ 125mph, i cant see it as a major issue.

i can see the pro's and cons of a system like that and there must be a reason why it hasnt caught on in the UK?

The page does state that the Monaro was driven at 125 by the local mechanic, without roadhawk the owner would have never known. A short loop stored on an sd card is less vulnerable in a big accident and less incriminating in the long run than a hard drive.

ah! i didnt read all the way through. in that case, i guess thats another plus point for the system.
