Insurance wanting money for a copy of MY policy!

Morning all,

Sorry just wanting to rant to make me feel better.

Just in the process of hiring a trailer for the weekend to take my MR2 Championship car to Brands Hatch. Trailer firm want me to bring my insurance certificate etc. No worries.

Go through files, can't find it. This particular insurance company charge you £1.50 for printed versions of the certificate etc so they email it. Check through my emails from a year ago. Can't find it.

Ring them up asking for a copy to be emailed through..... and they want £30 for the privilege. REALLY??? for an EMAIL????

Suffice to say, my old man will now be towing the trailer with his truck.

Just another way insurance companies Pee you off.

Not all insurers are that bad. Aviva charge me £3.50 to post me a hard copy of my policy, or for no charge I can log on to their website , download and print whenever I want. I can also make changes to the policy online.

Lazy people can't be bothered to look for their certificate of insurance and thus rung up to get a duplicate instead. So began the punitive charge for a dupe cert.

If its the company I am thinking off you can print the docs on-line. Go to their website & log in. Also has the policy documents too.

i just scan my docs to my pc/photocopy them when they arrive that way i dont have to pay to get a reprint

For what it's worth, I definitely value having people working in insurance here, because we can get far straighter advice and explanations out of them than you're ever going to get talking to the company itself.

I usually just photocopy it, carry the copy with me and the orignal in a safe place at home.

Afraid not. Just been on their website no such luck. Just says call their call centre. At which point I'm guessing they take £30 from your pocket
