Hi there,
I am one of those people that does alot of reading on here but not alot of typing but I have a dilemma I need a hand with so thought I would go for some advice. Normally I am pretty decisive for better or worse, but I am struggling this time out..
In short the wife has had two kiddywinkles, and after 2 years off went back to work this week which has freed up my car budget :-). I have about 25-30k to spend, and as you may have guessed by my list of often dubious but usually quick past cars I am going for a return to form. The problem is there is far more choice than I was expecting in this price range for the usual 3-6 year old looked after car I go for ( I hate depreciation..)
My current shortlist is:
RS4
M5
M3
Porsche 911 Turbo ( 996 and dont want any of the others)
TVR T350c possibly Tuscan.
At the minute I quite fancy the idea of a porsche 911 turbo as I have never owned a porsche or a genuine sports cars generally sticking to quick saloons. I am going to get the Mrs a deisel estate I can use when needed so that is covered, but do need something reliable for 8-10k a year mileage that within reason wont cost the earth to maintain. The porsche seems to fit on that score but have this niggling doubt the 996 model is starting to look dated? I dont want a standard 997. That said, heart talking I have always wanted a TVR but like many, reliability worries me. A good friend of mine bought a Tamora brand new but had nothing but trouble, spent 9 months of the 2 years he had it in the garage and lost 18k in depreciation. I really cant be doing with that and would be concerned about my wife driving it, which she will occasionally have to. Not saying she cant drive, she just likes it to be made easy ala most german cars with light pedals and steering and easy to get in and out of. Reading between the lines I think she wants an RS4, but i want something different rather than another souped up saloon. Although, showing how clearly I have not made my mind up.. The M5 might be a good compromise?
Anyway if any bright spark has a way of settling this or has any feedback from long term ownership of the above please could they chip in.
