yet another mpg question..real world Elise figures (s1 or 2)

I currently commute in a diesel estate - its comfy and does 50mpg but I get bored of it/them frequently (the cars last about 20,000 miles - 1 yearish before apathy forces a change)

as an attempt to lob some joy in my commute.......who does commute in an Elise and how far/what mpg

Bog standard S2 will do just over 40mpg on the motorway. The S1 will do slightly more as 4th and 5th gears are higher.

The newer Toyota engined models are poorer on fuel and road tax than the earlier Rover engined models.

I'd be interested to know how much the new 1.6 Toyota engined one does. I find the base model strangely appealing.....

As a total contrast the 'new' Morgan 4/4 Sport seems pretty frugal.

The 'claimed' figures for the 1600 Elise are very high. Not sure if they're near repeatable in real world driving though. 6 speed box in the 1600 to no doubt help economical cruising.

I used to get an easy 40 mpg out of my S1 on the motorway. I would have thought 45 mpg would be achievable at a steady 70mph cruise.

I used to get mid 30s out of mine but that was shall we say enthusiastically driving her (not commuting but only used for fun, and motorways are not fun in an Elise!). I was always impressed with the fuel economy, especially coming from a TVR.
