girlfriend needs a new car... fast but not too manly!

As per the subject really. currently she has a Golf GT 170 (DSG + diesel) company car which is being returned. But what now?
The requirements are preferably 5 door, hatchback, similar build quality that the golf has (or is perceived to have), doesn't look nasty yet isn't too manly. It doesnt have to be a rocket but needs to have a decent amount of power. Also we're looking for a bargain at around 5k or less. I've been thinking a lot and all I can think of is another golf or maybe a Megane Renaultsport 225 or DCI. I think the megane might be a bit raw in this spec, maybe something a little softer might suit her.

Any other ideas?

Now there's a thought. We've been training the mother in law to get in and out of the back of my 330ci so an RX8 is certainly plausible.....
And of the course the mini. Now that would suit her too. Thanks guys - 2 fantastic options already!!

Maybe an option. Will have to show her the mondeo as we may have some size issues. certainly a nice car. Think we're due a review of the options tomorrow morning (after the F1) so shall let you know how that goes. Off to find a nice pic of one now. thx!

You might want to check the tax implications on that....;)

...and if she buys much fuel for private use, the real world MPG is horrendous.

Pre 2004 models have cheaper tax i think, although the mpg of a rotary engine is hard to justify.

I averaged 20mpg, but if that's too rich for you there is a wide range of more economical four seat front mid-engined coupes to choose from. Oh, hang on, no there aren't.
